The rollup is a way to create clarity in electronic communication, particularly long threads. As a technical leader, you read the entire thread, and then create a summary of this form:
“To summarize: the problem is X. Possible paths forward are A, B, C. Sounds like we’re leaning towards A. have I missed anything?”
This guides people towards a solution and clarifys the discussion to date1.
