Switching tasks results in costs to worker because they often have to ramp into the activity for example:
- Mechanical costs of moving to the new task (e.g. procuring materials to complete job)
- Rework due to switching at a bad time
- immersion time, the time it takes to re-acquaint oneself with the problem space
- frustration (emotional immersion)
