During controversial periods, leaders will be posed with “hard” questions. This difficultly often arises in the framing of the question as binary (Are we going to have lay offs? Are we going to kill a product?) and zero-sum. Rarely are things this cut and dry, and therefore a useful approach is to reject the framing and reframe the question. This is similar to Re-routing the narrative. Revisit the roots of the question, correct areas where there are nuance, and perhaps explain the decision making around the decision.
