macOS Command Line Tools

There are a handful of command line tools specific to the macOS OS1, here is another useful list.

caffeniate

Used to keep the computer from sleeping. caffeinate -u -t <seconds>

  • caffeinate <command> - start the command and keep from sleeping til finished

pmset

power management

sips

Image manipulation: sips -z <height> <width> <image> - resize the current image

use -o flag to avoid destructive editng

mdfind

  • Search with spotlight

screencapture

screencapture -c - copy to clipboard screencapture -T - wait T seconds beffore capturing

systemprofiler

Prints information about the computer system_profiler SPHardwareDataType prints major information about the machine, including SN
