Point and Calling

Pointing and Calling is a safety system designed to reduce mistakes. Originating in Japanese railways, where operators point and call out different states of operation. For example, “Signal is green”, “track is clear”. The idea being to increase awareness and engagement with the task at hand. A study found, pointing and calling reduces errors by up to 85 percent1.
