Active component of catnip
Nepetalactol is thought to be the active component in Catpnip (Nepeta cataria), producing an opioid-like response in felines. Nepetalactol is a type of compound called iridoids which protect the plant against in aphids. It has been shown that this chemical can have mosquito-repellent properties1.
