The Ludlow Massacre was an massacre of striking coal miners in Colorado in 1914. John D. Rockefeller, Jr. was seen as both to blame, and indifferent to, the massacre as the controlling share holder of Colorado Fuel and Iron company. John Jr. was in NY and largely removed from operations which were handled by Rockefeller confidant Lamont Bowers. John Jr. was able to repair his public image (and the family name) through a PR tour in colorado where he met the miners1.
