A pattern for fixing a broken team1:

  1. Diagnose the issues and stick to it.
  2. Bring in a new manager either a junior ambitious manager who can grind it out or an experienced manager who will view the opprotunity as a spring board.
  3. The Manager must:
    1. fix broken process and run them well
    2. Manage out cynical culture carriers
    3. Get in the weeds and learn the system
    4. Hire at least some new teammates
    5. make sure the mission is good
